About The Graph
The Graph is a decentralized protocol that enables developers to index and query blockchain data efficiently. Developers define how to ingest and structure on-chain data by building 'subgraphs', which are then deployed to a global network of node operators called Indexers. This creates a vibrant, decentralized marketplace for data. Users pay for their queries in the network's native utility token, GRT. In addition to the decentralized protocol, The Graph also offers a managed hosted service that provides a more traditional, self-serve developer experience for building and deploying subgraphs across dozens of supported blockchains.
Core Protocol Roles
Indexers
Node operators that stake GRT to process and index data for subgraphs and serve queries.
Curators
Subgraph developers or data consumers who signal which APIs should be indexed by staking GRT.
Delegators
Individuals who delegate their GRT to Indexers to contribute to the network's security without running a node.
Consumers
End-users that query the subgraphs and pay query fees to Indexers, Curators, and Delegators.
Developer Tooling
Subgraph Studio
A dApp for creating, managing, and deploying subgraphs to the decentralized network.
Graph Explorer
An interface to explore the decentralized network and interact with subgraphs.
Hosted Service
A centralized, managed service for developers to build and deploy subgraphs for free.
Graphql Api
The standard for querying data from all subgraphs, providing a flexible and efficient data retrieval method.
